• Nothing's like a fresh and tasty apple

    Attachment 362After having read through this article by german it-site golem.de I tried to have a look at the linked US-patent D642,172 from July 26th 2011, describing a claim for „The ornamental design for an electronic device, as shown and described.” Naturally, I became interested and wanted to have a look at the great piece of art worthy of being protected in such a manner. But alas, I failed! My browser/windows installation lacked a certain component to view the images as the United States Patent and Trademark Office relies on a Quicktime plugin (that at least is what Firefox is telling me, maybe I should have gone with Safari?) from Apple Inc. in order to display the images which I was somehow reluctant to install just yet.

    Now, Apple has been fighting a vigorous legal war with some of it's competitors and recently has succeeded in a european court to stop sales of Samsungs Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the European Union (except for the Netherlands). And this new design patent seems to be designed to protect a MacBook Air shaped design. With the recent announcement of Intels Ultrabooks being very thin but powerful notebooks by design, this should lead to a lot of work for various law firms in the months and years to come.

    All of a sudden and probably completely unrelated, I felt the urge for some fresh, delicious food. An apple looked like it was just the right choice at first glance, but then, after having taken a bite out of it, I just became a little disgusted
